The Iranian singer has complained that she will not be able to return to her home country because she “would be arrested or killed”
Iranian singer Sevdaliza thanked the Latin American people for their welcome after the release of the song “Alibi”, made in collaboration with Brazilian singer Pabllo Vittar and French singer Yseult. This Friday (19/7), the song reached the third most listened to position in Brazil, according to Spotify data.
“Unfortunately I will never be able to return to my homeland, [pois] would be arrested or killed. I have always felt like a nomadic immigrant. In the last few months I have been welcomed with open arms by the Latin American people. It is very special to me and I am grateful,” Sevdaliza wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Who is she?
Sevdaliza is originally from Tehran, Iran, but grew up in the Netherlands after fleeing with her family at the age of five. In 2019, she said she tries to reconnect with her roots to develop her art. “I was naturally drawn to the beauty of Persian poetry and its melancholy. I try to bring that depth into my songs,” she told Vogue.
Over the course of her career, the 36-year-old singer has already won over some of her fans with the release of three albums: “Ison” (2017), “The Calling” (2018) and “Shabrang” (2020). She has recently gone viral on social media with new songs, including “Alibi”, which is expected to be available on her upcoming album.
The Iranian artist has also had other important relationships with Brazil, in addition to her acclaimed partnership with Pabllo Vittar. She has performed in different parts of the country, with her debut in São Paulo, in 2019.
