With a decades-long career in rock’n’roll, the Guns N’ Roses guitarist gave his opinion on the most vibrant music scene of the moment: ‘I wish rock was like this’
slash has been making its share of noise for decades with rock music Armas e Rosas and other projects like Conspirators. However, even for him, there is a more ‘vibrant’ music scene than good old rock’n’roll these days.
In conversation with the magazine MNPR (via Loudwire), Slash said he has enjoyed the new developments in the blues scene.
“I wish rock was like that too,” the star joked. “The blues scene is doing great. I think there are a lot of good players in that area.”
In the wake of his commentary, Slash emphasized that the current situation in the rock industry has its positive side. He pointed out that he has seen many people playing rock for fun, without worrying about money or getting million-dollar contracts. According to him, rock has never ceased to exist, but this could help to regain the prominence that the style had in the past.
“I see there are a lot of kids making their own rock’n’roll on their own now, away from the record companies and all the nonsense that was going on in the ’90s and the turn of the millennium. They’re creating their own music for themselves. No one’s trying to make money out of it or get a big record deal. The ambitions aren’t about the limousines or the hot fucking girls anymore – it’s just about the music, and that’s really important, because I think that’s what’s going to bring the rock scene back.”
Slash’s statement about the blues comes in the context of the album Orgy of the Damnedreleased by him in May 2024. The album rescues the guitarist’s roots in the style and also features the participation of names such as Iggy Pop, Brian Johnson, Demi Lovatobetween others.
