Branco Mello to undergo surgery to remove new tumor


The Titãs musician will be away from shows for an indefinite period, a statement reads

The musician White Honeyof the Titans, announced on his social media that he will undergo surgery to remove an early-stage tumor in one of his tonsils. The statement released Tuesday morning said Mello discovered the tumor during a routine exam.

Known for his work at Titãs, where he worked as a musician, singer and composer for more than 40 years, Mello has been battling the recurrence of tumors that have affected the throat area. In 2020, when the disease was diagnosed, Mello underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy, treatments that eliminated the tumor.

In 2021, when the tumor returned, he had to undergo surgery to remove his larynx, which affected his left vocal cord. In 2022, a new tumor, this time at the base of his tongue, led to another surgery. A hemorrhage left him in critical condition in intensive care.

Due to the surgeries and tracheostomy he underwent, Mello had doubts about his ability to sing again. With the help of speech therapists, he learned to use other regions of his voice and was applauded during the Encontro tour, with which he reunited with the original members of Titãs between 2023 and 2024.

Recently Mello, Tony Bellotto and Sérgio Britto, the latest members of the group, launched the project Microphoned. In the album, Mello sings songs like How beautiful it is to be simplewith the participation of Preta Gil, Dinosaur headwith rapper Major RD.

Mello will be away from the shows for an indefinite period. He will be replaced by the musician Caio Góes.
