Singer Speaks Out About Attacks, Reconsiders Return to Stage
Singer Halsey has revealed her regrets about resuming her career after being criticized by fans. The artist had retired from the stage due to lupus, an autoimmune disease and a rare lymphoproliferative disorder. Last month, she released two singles: “The End” and “Lucky.” However, the releases received a lot of negative comments on social media.
Social media outburst
On Tumblr, Halsey opened up about the backlash she’s received since returning to the music scene. “My fans are way meaner to me than anyone on the planet,” she said.
The singer stressed that she wasn’t referring to all of her followers, but explained that the number of attacks is increasing every day. “It seems like most of them have stopped to occasionally express their opinion about how much they hate me or how horrible I am.”
Toxic environment
Halsey said she spent years avoiding her social media, which turned into an “environment devoid of kindness, empathy, patience; or, let’s be honest, human decency.”
Career Reevaluation
The singer said she will no longer do anything that doesn’t make her happy and that she is re-evaluating her return to the stage. “When I got sick, all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of it again, but I don’t even know what that means anymore; I want to burrow into a hole and regret coming back,” she concluded.
