Taylor Swift praises Charli XCX amid feud rumors

Fans pointed out that Taylor and Charli fought for the top of the charts

Taylor Swift praised Charli XCX amid rumors of a fight. In an interview with New York magazine (via People), Swift said: “I was impressed by the melodic sensitivity of Charlie since I first heard ‘Stay Away’ in 2011. Her songwriting is surreal and inventive, always.”

“She just takes a song to places you wouldn’t expect it to go, and she’s been doing that consistently for over a decade. I love seeing that kind of hard work pay off,” the “Anti-Hero” hitmaker added.

Presentation in Sao Paulo

Charli XCX didn’t like hearing his fans screaming “Taylor [Swift] died” during the PARTYGIRL DJ setin São Paulo, in June.

Can people please stop? Online or at my shows. This is the opposite of what I want and it bothers me that anyone thinks there is room for this in this community. I will not tolerate it – Charli XCX via Instagram stories

Same day releases

Fans of the British artist also attacked Swift when she released an exclusive digital version of The Tortured Poets Department in the same week that Brat arrived on streaming platforms.

Internet users pointed out that the proximity of the releases interfered with the charts and prevented Charlie reached the top of the UK charts.

Charts

Taylor Swift announced in early August a new version of The Tortured Poets Department — an album originally released in April of this year. The edition includes “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys (First Draft Phone Memo)” and was available for purchase on the singer’s official website for just 24 hours.

Internet users believe that the date chosen by Swift for the new release was no coincidence. After 13 consecutive weeks at the top of the charts, the artist may have been trying to ensure that no one takes her place — least of all Charli XCX and Billie Eilish —, fans point out.

Charli XCX and Eilish released in the same week the remix of “Guess”, an exclusive track from the deluxe version of Brat. The composition co-produced by The Dare and Finneas also won a music video directed by Aidan Zamiri.

“This is suspicious, this is weird,” one person wrote on Twitter, citing a post that reported the position of “Guess” on the charts. “Who would have guessed?” said another, making a pun on the track’s title.

A third fan argued: “She really tried her best to block Charli and Billie. Damn they know she’s mad about their collaboration.”

Indirect in music?

The track “Sympathy is a knife”, from the new album by Charli XCXwas pointed out by fans as an indirect message to Swift. In the lyrics, she says that she doesn’t want to “see her backstage at her boyfriend’s show” and that she hopes “they end it quickly.”

There are those who believe that Charlie made reference to the short novel by Taylor with Matty Healylead singer of The 1975. Charlie is engaged to George Danieldrummer of the band.

Opening show

Charli XCX already did the opening show with Camila Cabello to Taylor Swift in 2018, during the Reputation Tour. After the performance, Charlie stated that she would not do it again: “I’m very grateful that Taylor asked me on this tour. But, as an artist, it was like I went on stage and waved to 5-year-olds.”
