Free event takes place in São Paulo between September 14th and 15th and celebrates the African roots of percussion in Latin American music
Celebrating the cultural richness of Latin America, the AWESOME Festival! reaches its 8th edition in São Paulo. The event is free and takes place between September 14th and 15th at Tendal da Lapa.
Throughout its history, MUCHO! has sought to bring themes to promote diversity and knowledge of the history of the Latin American people. For this edition, the festival chose to delve into the essence of drums, valuing percussion and the rhythms that traverse the continent. In addition, the event’s theme is to highlight the African roots of the instrument in Latin American music.
Drums are an integral part of Afro-Latin music, reflecting the ancestry, resilience and joy of Latin American peoples. Across the continent, percussion plays a vital role in rituals, festivals and other cultural expressions.
Percussion is not just an accompaniment; it is the protagonist that dictates the rhythm of Latin America. Each drumbeat connects with different traditions and cultural narratives that merge into a single pulse. We will notice in the songs of the MUCHO! attractions that percussion not only makes us dance, but touches the soul. So this year’s MUCHO! is rhythm, it is pulse, it is struggle, it is survival and it is the union of our continent through the rhythm of the drum.” says the curator. Felipe France Gonzalez.
The festival will bring together artists and musical performances, as well as a schedule of parties and activities. See more details below.
