Vegan products: investment opportunities also for Anitta

Veganism and vegetarianism are becoming more common. One factor that helps popularize the theme is celebrity membership: Xuxa, for example, has just published a children’s book called “Mimi, the cow that didn’t want to be food”. Anitta, who is already a partner of the plant-based vegan food company Fazenda Futuro, recently launched a line of frozen party foods, called Future Party, under the brand.

According to the Brazilian Vegetarian Society (SVB), the number of vegetarians grew by 75% in metropolitan regionss, between 2012 and 2018. Currently, the changes can be observed by anyone, going to the supermarket: the offer of vegan and vegetarian products is increasing.

As a result, business opportunities also grow. Fazenda Futuro, for example, was only founded in 2019 and has already achieved a market value of over R $ 2 billion. Vegan and functional fast food startup Bloom, which recently launched just one unit, received a grant of R $ 10 million this month.

Investors can enter via equity crowdfunding

As many of the companies are emerging, it is an option for investors to embark on this growing market. Therefore, the entrepreneur Christian Wolthers has created a company that brings together founders and investors, through a platform equity crowdfunding specifically for vegan companies, the Vegan Business.

Wolthers says he went vegan in 2017, when he discovered he was going to be a father for the first time – today he has two children: “I reflected on my lifestyle, on my consumption, trying to be more consistent with what I believe I am. the example I want to leave for generations to come, is one of the things [a mudar] he had to adhere to veganism, “he said.

Wolthers is Danish-Brazilian and has always traveled extensively. In these trips, in 2018, he has already observed the movement happening in Brazil today. In London and California, he saw a trend towards an increase in the supply of industrialized vegan products, so he started wanting to work in this market.

Also, he wanted to propagate the benefits he had with veganism. This led, in the same year, to a content portal that later became Vegan Business’ crowdfunding platform: “My partner, Nádia Gonçalves, and I started having a relationship with entrepreneurs in this market.”

With the growth of the portal came investment opportunities in the business, Wolthers says: “In 2019 I made my first investment as an angel in a vegetable company, called Super Vegan (of chocolates) and I decided to focus 100% of the investments on this type of company, which meets this criterion of no abuse. about animals. . In 2020 I was invited by the Veg Capital venture capital fund, which invests only in vegan foods, and I started getting even more opportunities. I wanted to participate in many of these companies, and then the idea of the crowdfunding platform was born, “he said.

The platform received CVM approval at the end of last year and started operating in January of this year: “In six months we have already made four rounds of investment, R $ 3 million for companies in the vegetable market. All rounds close in a few hours, less than a day, “Wolthers said.

He explains why it is a good time to invest in the business: “Today it has become fashionable to invest in plant based business, because there is a very interesting trend in the sector, in terms of business. I continue to invest and our investment community has grown a lot. This is interesting because you are investing in a company in the real economy, in a growing market, ”concluded the CEO of Vegan Business.
