Arthur Verocai Falls During Sound Check, Coala Festival Show Cancelled


The 79-year-old conductor was taken to hospital after the accident during the sound check of a musical event

Maestro Arthur Verocai, 79, fell during the soundcheck of the Coala Festival, held this Saturday (8/12), which led to the cancellation of his performance with the orchestra, scheduled for the same day at the Simon Bolívar Auditorium, in São Paulo.

Verocai was taken to hospital after falling

According to the firefighters present on site, Verocai was promptly rescued by the festival’s medical team and then taken to the hospital to receive the necessary treatment.

The Coala Festival production expressed regret for what happened and wished the maestro a speedy recovery. “With great sadness, we inform you that the Arthur Verocai & Orquestra show, scheduled for 5:45 p.m., in the Simon Bolívar Auditorium, had to be canceled. During the preparations for the show, the maestro suffered a fall. He was immediately attended to by the festival’s medical team and taken to the hospital to receive the necessary care. Coala Festival deeply regrets this incident and, with affection, sends dear Verocai its best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery,” the statement reads.

The Maestro’s musical history

With an extensive career in Brazilian music, Arthur Verocai is known for his work as a pianist, guitarist, composer, arranger and conductor. During the 1960s, he participated in several music festivals as a composer and collaborated on arrangements for renowned artists such as Ivan Lins, Elis Regina and Jorge Ben Jor.
