Disco remembers the end of the last decade, but the group now wants to mark a political position
Fresno is experiencing its best moment in 23 years of band. The group resumes with the album tour I’ll have to turn around (2021) and sold out concert halls. This throng of presentations is reminiscent of the band’s early career, now promoting their most recent work. In addition to the new album, Fresno is experiencing a moment of taking a stance in the national political context to differentiate itself, according to her, in the scenario of Brazilian rock.
Fresno believes he is experiencing something of a peak in his career, albeit different from another time at the end of the last decade, when he was consistently featured on TV and other media.
in conversation with the Estadio, Lucas Silveira (guitar and vocals) stated that the expectations with the tour and the reception of the album were exceeded by the band. “It is the most beautiful moment we are experiencing. For the results it is presenting, the dimensions we have achieved at the fairs, the acceptance of the general public. We are reaping many fruits from the years in which we have worked”, he says referring to the Vavo components ( guitar) and Guerra (drums), which complete the current lineup, and to those who have already moved into the group.
The show I’ll have to turn around brings together the songs of their latest work, without giving up the classics of the band, like milonga (Redemption2008) and Porto Alegre (Revenge2010) and remembering the songs from the first albums, such as Every puddle on this street has a little bit of my tears (Cyan, 2006). Thus, the styles mix, attracting old fans and winning new ones.
“We have some aspects of a band with a long way to go. Record, crowd. A comfort band that refers to a nostalgic time of a crowd. At the same time, we have always been concerned with maintaining relevance with our current sound, with our musical production “, evaluates Lucas, who adds:” We have never been number 1 in Brazil. This never made us rest. We explored a lot of sound. “
When Lucas calls fans to sing, the singer calls part of the audience in their 20s to 30s to go back to their early youth: “bunch of old emos”. The style, marked by this feeling of being out of place and that gives vent to sensibilities, was attributed to the band when something different from what it lives today emerged at the beginning of the century.
“People who came from a hardcore scene, from alternative music, emo was just another style,” he analyzes. “Obviously it stigmatized, attracted a troop of people who didn’t like (the style). It also had a layer of rancidity, because there was still a very ill-conceived thought of linking rock to a macheza, which historically rock, in fact, never had. “.
Perception is currently different, according to Lucas, although there are biases or, to a lesser extent, implications. Advances in mentality caused Fresno itself to change and its members’ ideals to be more explicit. One example is the tracks F … !!! And They hate people like usboth from the last album and that refer to the conservative wave experienced today in Brazil.
“We started to feel that it was necessary to let go of this negative stigma of being a conservative rocker. Sometimes audiences may say ‘I loved this band, but what do they say?’ There will be one or the other who won’t like it, another who will say ‘I’ve stopped listening to you’ – but it’s a minority, “he warns.
“For these more conservative people, you don’t even need to have anything to be vilified. Just have a little more progressive thinking. That’s why they hate people like us. Here for what we think is right,” he says.
