Marvel launches a project with trap artists KondZilla

The song will connect the studio’s black heroes with the reality of black youth in Brazil

Marvel announced this Monday (30/9) the new edition of the project “The Power is Ours”, which includes the participation of KondZilla artists. The initiative features trap music that will connect the studio’s black heroes with the reality of black youth in Brazil.

The new single was composed by Coruja BC1 together with the production of DJ MaxnosBeatZ, while the vocals were recorded by artists Jovem Mk, MC Luanna and Malcolm VL, who occupy prominent positions and are considered a reference in the musical genre.

“We received this invitation very happily. Our choice of artists thought about their current moment and also about the inclusion of people who would be able to transmit this lineage that the project needed. I think it was a great choice,” said Tico Fernandes, creative director and partner at KondZilla.

Music video

In addition to the song, the Kondzilla team also produced a music video in Heliópolis, the largest community in São Paulo, under the supervision of director Kaique Alves. The recording shows young black men at significant moments, such as passing the entrance exam and getting promoted to a job. The music video is now available on YouTube.

“My main concern was to bring a message. The clip, inspired by Wakanda, aims to show the heroes without capes in an interesting visual way, betting on urban aesthetics. We did this by putting the ‘broken’ in a prominent place and mixing with elements of the city,” he said.

In the first edition, Marvel invited five Brazilian artists to create reinterpretations of their characters: Negritoo took care of Black Panther, Luna contributed to the women of Wakanda, Massai gave voice to Miles Morales, while Crica continued with Tempest and DGOH concluded the project with Falcao .
