THE Coldplay releases this Friday, the 4th, his 10th studio album. Second Chris Martin, Moon Musiccontinuation of Music of the Spheres (2021), is the band’s second-to-last album — but it could be their last.

The project’s ten songs respond to wars and global warming with phrases and exaggerated positivity, sounding like the last paragraph of an essay written for Enem. Frills, such as titles that alternate between uppercase and lowercase letters — not counting the track named after an emoji — are not justified: they are just frills.

The violins that introduce the title track and the album offer an epic tone. Accompanied by a piano, the vocalist begins: “Once upon a time…”. The feeling is that the Coldplay he was immersed in deep feelings during his first albums, until he finally came to the surface and produced verses like “Baby, it’s my mind you blow”, from the single “feelslikeimfallinginlove”.

“WE PRAY” repeats the violins, but in the way pop artists who became famous in the 2000s would do it. The partnership with Little Simz, Burna Boy, Elyanna and TINI reacts to world conflicts by suggesting prayer, leaving no room for explicit denunciations.

The British group also included “iAAM” on the new album, a kind of queer anthem. “I love who I love”, he sings Martin to clarify that he did not forget the topics regarding the LGBTQ+ community. In the same vein, “🌈” ends with words of Maya Angelou which, when inserted into the song, seem to reduce the activist’s speech to corroborate the simplistic message of the Coldplay.

“GOOD FEELiNGS” moves through the electronic rhythm alongside the young woman’s vocals Ayra Starrforming a pop without the identity of Coldplay. After all, what would be the current identity of the Coldplay? “AETERNA” is coherent with “GOOD FEELiNGS”, as it gives a few more minutes to electronic music.

The latest tracks Moon Music they could be in generic soundtracks for Sessão da Tarde films (the others too). After avoiding clear positions, the band ends the album saying: “In the end it’s just love”. How did we not think of this before?

THE The Smile also releases a new album this Friday. Formed by Thom Yorke, Johnny Greenwood and ToneSkinnerthe group has two members from Radiohead — band to which the Coldplay was compared in its beginnings. Cutouts might be a good choice for today.
