“I would never think about singing in a show if it weren’t for Rita Lee and the demand that arose from it”. “I have no vocation for music to this day [risos]”, start Mel Lisboain an interview with Rolling StoneBrazil. “I ran away from that for a long time, because I don’t consider myself a singer. After the Rita left, people started asking me to sing a lot.”

The artist presented the show with the formation that Rita used to use on stage, with two guitars, bass, percussion and keyboard. For preparation, she says she is inspired by her long-standing relationship with the singer, as well as a lot of study, weekly singing classes and dedication to the musical aspect.

“It has a history of ours, it’s beautiful. That’s why I started doing the shows and now I’ve started to enjoy it more, and feel more comfortable”, says the artist, who adds that she is paying homage, and not characterizing herself as the singer. “I don’t do the Ritathe show is a tribute. I sing her songs like Honey.”

Lisbon also stars in the show Rita Lee, A Musical Autobiography and says that, with repetition and study, even the result of the piece became better over time — and continues to please fans, as the last batch of tickets for performances has sold out. For her, her success is due, in part, to the beautiful relationship she built with Rita Lee.

Who is a fan of Rita and he really likes her, he notices a different quality in our relationship. Because it was a long-standing thing, because she watched me, asked me to do some things like her, like the audiobook… She asked to come back with the show. It’s beautiful.

The show Voice and Guitar – Tribute to Rita Lee was presented by Seguros Unimed Theater Festival and featured presentations in 24 cities in the interior and coast of São Paulo, until October 5th. In the show, Mel Lisboa sang 16 songs within the rich repertoire of Rita Lee.
