MC Cabelinho is at the center of a controversy in Angola after canceling at the last minute his performance at the Drenalândia festival, which was due to take place in the early hours of Sunday 27 October.
The organizers of the event were not happy with the cancellation and, without obtaining a prior resolution, decided to go to the hotel where the singer was staying to ask for R’s refund.$250 thousandan amount which, according to the organizers, had already been paid.
You draining, as the event organizers are known, went to the hotel and confronted one of Cabelinho’s team members, identified as Vinicius, about the cancellation.
In a video circulating online, the organizers question the alleged reasons, while Vinicius explains that some essential performance equipment was missing, such as the sound feedback the artist needs to communicate with the band. In response, one of the organizers asks: “Have we lost credibility with our customers because of a cable? R$250,000 is a lot of money here. That’s 50 million Kwanzas.”
In the midst of the discussion in the hotel lobby, others tried to calm things down, suggesting the teams try to reach an agreement. However, to date, neither party has announced a resolution.
MC Cabelinho: The team justifies the lack of payment and equipment
The MC Cabelinho team, managed by Bairro 13, justified the cancellation with an official statement. According to the artist’s production, the contract was not fully fulfilled by the festival organization, as the full payment of the compensation and some essential technical standards were not respected. Despite the failure to pay in full, Cabelinho reportedly tried to make the show possible out of respect for the Angolan public, but encountered technical problems.
Again according to the singer’s team, the equipment provided by the organization for the show did not meet the contractual quality and safety requirements, which prevented the show from taking place.
In a statement, Bairro 13 regretted the cancellation and assured that both the artist and his team are frustrated by what happened. According to them, MC Cabelinho intends to return to Angola for a new presentation, demonstrating that the issue is being treated seriously.
The dispute continues and so far there has been no refund or formal agreement between the parties.
