The musician recovered and returns to Brazil with Iron Maiden in December
Bruce Dickinson revealed that he was ready to look for a new vocalist for the Iron Maiden when he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014. The singer underwent chemotherapy in 2015 to remove a “golf ball”-sized tumor on his tongue.
During participation in the podcast Rich Rollhowever, Dickinson confessed that he was already preparing to be replaced in the group (via NME).

“When I had throat cancer, the last thing on my mind was, ‘Will I ever sing again?’ The first thing on my mind was, ‘Am I going to get through this and stay alive?’ The last thing that crossed my mind was whether I would ever sing again. And I thought, ‘Well, let’s go back on stage when I’m ready and start trying to sing,'” he said. Dickinson.
I was well prepared to accept that I might not be able to sing with Iron Maiden again. Maybe I could sing, vocalize, or sing in a different way, but if I couldn’t sing the way I need to for the Iron MaidenI would help them find a great replacement. Because music is sacred. – Bruce Dickinson
It was not necessary to find a new vocalist, as Dickinson recovered and returned to touring with Iron Maiden still in 2016. The band returns to Brazil in December for two shows in São Paulo.
