Olga Tell us a little about your arrival and what the band’s current situation is like:
After 45 years of playing with The Toy DollsI felt like trying something new. Fortunately I heard from Stinky that he was setting up a new Cockney Rejects and he asked me if I would like to be part of it, of course I said yes, I’m a fan of Cockney Rejects. The shows have been incredible and the new lineup is much more punk, like Rejects from 1978-1980.”
Punk legend Cockney Rejects
The band Cockney Rejects born through brothers Jeff and Mick Geggus in 1978 in the city of London.
There are around 46 years of devotion to punk. Over the years, the band revolutionized the genre and is considered one of the formations responsible for the emergence of the musical genre Oi!
Hey! is the popular name for street punk that preaches friendship, unity and also deals with social issues – after all, it is a type of music that was born in the suburbs of London.
Back to Brazil
There is a very intimate relationship between the Cockney Rejects and Brazil. In addition to the various tours, all of which were always popular, the band – in 2017 – wrote a lyric about the Chapecoense football club, in honor of the plane tragedy that killed several players and coaching staff in November of the previous year.
The song is an adaptation of “Goodbye Upton Park”which the British had recently launched. The original lyrics are about the closure of the Upton Park stadium in London, home of West Ham between 1904 and 2016.
Live, the Cockney Rejects is famous for its high energy and, in this new visit to Brazil, with the new formation, it promises classics such as “Fighting in the Streets”, “We Are the Firm”, “Power and the Glory”among many others.
