Morrissey he spoke again about being unable to release new music. The former vocalistSmiths claims to be subject to censorship, having his “freedom of expression” curtailed.

As you know, no one will release my songs anymore. I am one of the main exponents of freedom of expression. In England, at least, this is now criminalized. You can’t speak freely in England. If you don’t believe me, go ahead: express an opinion and get arrested. It’s very, very difficult.”

What is Morrissey talking about

Although the comment was not so clear, one imagines that Morrissey refer to the album Bonfire of Teenagersshelved by Capitol Records after its recording between 2020 and 2021. In April, it was reported that the vocalist acquired the rights to this album and another, World Peace is None of Your Businessalso unpublished.

The song also called “Bonfire of Teenagers” would have been the reason why the Capitol gave up on releasing the album. The lyrics of the track make reference to the terrorist attack at the Manchester Arena, during a concert by the pop singer. Ariana Grandeon May 22, 2017. The incident caused by a suicide bomber caused at least 22 deaths and the hospitalization of another 112. The Islamic State declared itself responsible.

As the song has been played live, the public already knows the verses of the composition, about a fan who is “vaporized”. In the final section, Morrissey he even sings “Go easy on the killer”, which would be a comment on the British justice system, but it went wrong. Even so, the artist refused to remove the track and change the name of the album, generating an obstacle with Capitol — called “fascist” by him.
