In an interview, Elton John also questioned the presence of music veterans at the top of the charts, to the detriment of new artists such as Sharon Van Etten and Harry Styles.
For Elton John, women are making ‘the best music’ at the moment. In an interview with music weekthis Tuesday (18), the singer said that names like New Twins, Haim and wet leg are responsible for the good music of the current phase.
“It’s so nice to see New Twins, wet leg, Let’s Eat Grandma, The Linda Lindas, Haim and all these girls rocking it and making the best music,” said the Rocket Man.
In the statement, the musician came to a small exception among the male names of the moment – the singer Sam Fender. “In addition to Sam Fendernone of the boys are doing [música boa]the girls are”, he said, “it’s a breath of fresh air because it comes from innocence and pure joy and that, to me, is the meaning of music”.
generational conflict
Citing contemporary names throughout the interview, John reportedly cited the need to see younger bands on the charts, such as Sharon Van Etten and Angel OlsenBesides Harry Styles:

“It’s lovely to see Kate Bush at a #1, but there aren’t many more good tracks in the Top 20. And the record charts are full of stuff like me, like the abba or the queen“, he declared, “It’s depressing – there are a lot of good records that deserve to be on the album chart, like Juanita Euka, Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen. What I want to know is why aren’t they there? Because of people like me!”
