Harry Styles: US College Will Offer Course on British Singer’s Career

The show aims to analyze Harry Styles’ career and influence on pop culture

Texas State University, an American college, has announced that it will offer a course on Harry Styles. Entitled Harry Styles And The Cult Of Celebrity: Identity, The Internet And European Pop Culture [Harry Styles e o Culto da Celebridade: Identidade, a Internet e Cultura Pop Europeia, em português]the program will start in the first half of 2023.

Sharing the news on Twitter, course coordinator Dr. Louie Dean Valencia wrote “it’s official, official. I’m teaching the world’s first university course on job Harry Styles,” and posted a photo of an email with the acceptance letter and a brief summary of the classes:

“This course focuses on the British musician Harry Styles and European pop culture to understand the cultural and political development of modern celebrity in relation to issues of gender and sexuality, race, class, nation and globalism, media, fashion, fan culture, internet culture and consumerism.”

According to Valencethe course will cover the 12 years of the career of stylesincluding the period when he was a member of the boy band One Direction. “Historians have always used artists and musicians to understand a moment in history,” he said in an interview with KXAN.

styles was not the only singer to be the subject of a university course. In early 2022, the Clive Davis Institute at New York University announced a program on Taylor Swiftwhich would address “her evolution as a creative music entrepreneur, the legacy of pop and country songwriters, youth discourses, and the politics of race in contemporary popular music.”
