Cazuza’s mother denies the supposed nurse to read the Bible

Lucinha Araújo denied that her son asked the employee to read verses to “repent of sins”

Lucinha Araújo, mother of the singer Cazuza (1958-1990), spoke out against a statement by Ana Maria da Costa, a nurse who allegedly cared for the artist before his death. According to the former employee, he accepted Jesus before he died of AIDS. The controversial speech took place in February, but has had repercussions this week.

In the viral video, Ana Maria gives an interview to Pastor Márcio Teixeira, in which she claims to have worked for Cazuza in the last months of his life. She says that the artist asked her to read the Bible in search of a possible “salvation”, as he would like to live longer. His mother vehemently denied the information.

The nurse commented that she realized she had to bring the word of God to Cazuza, as the bond between them grew. “Time passed and I heard God telling me ‘You have to talk to this person about Jesus, he is a human being who needs to know the truth of the Gospel,’” he reported, who worked with the artist for a year and then three months, also going with the singer to the United States.

“One day I saw many Bibles there [na casa dele]the fans sent it to him and Espírito Santo started using me. One fine day he asked me to read the Bible to him. I went there and read Matthew, also other verses (…) I said ‘I cannot heal you, but God can heal you, if it is His will’. He didn’t know I was a believer, and that’s how it happened.”

Ana Maria also said that Cazuza supposedly repented of his sins in life. “I saw him cry, asking God for more time to live. I had never seen a patient as thirsty for life as he was. I continued to read the Bible to him, I saw that it was a process of repentance [dos pecados]. He was aware that he had done wrong things,” he assured.

Presumed history

In the same interview, Ana Maria also told what it would have been like for her to be hired to take care of the celebrity: “I met Cazuza in 1990, 1989 or ’90, when a nurse asked me to stay with a patient. I did many private shifts to be able to earn some extra money. Friend invited me saying she had a shift for me to do, it was Sunday, and I said ‘Oh, no, I’m going to rest’, I didn’t feel like it go, but I arrived, the patient was there. I said: ‘What’s the problem?’

The nurse said she was warned about Cazuza’s aggression in the final moments of his life. “[Eu] I entered and she [a tal amiga] He said: ‘I will tell you that he is a very difficult patient, he is an HIV-positive patient, he is being treated.’ I went to the room, met the patient, normal. I showed up and that evening it was very difficult, it was complicated and I said I didn’t want to go back. He was very aggressive at that moment,” Ana Maria said.

“I had to be very careful, but our ‘argument’ was because he wasn’t sleeping; he cursed me, it was a battle. He said he didn’t want to go back, but at the same time he was very affectionate, he apologized and asked : ‘Aninha, will you come back?’ He treated me so well, I couldn’t possibly not come back,” she added, saying the singer had mood swings, but that. the relationship between them improved over time.

“Things got better, but I had also scolded him, but I apologized to him, his mother. It was nice, because he said: ‘These are the people I like, I don’t want anyone to be afraid of me'”, strengthened Ana Maria.

Lucinha, however, was categorical and stated that Ana Maria’s information about her son is completely false. “This video is old, they reposted it and it’s a lie. It never happened,” Cazuza’s mother assured.
