Big winners of the Multishow Award, the singers deserve all the recognition
Technical problems aside, the Multishow Award, awarded last Tuesday (3), rewarded – and rightly so – Anitta and Liniker. Although they have different styles, the singers are pioneers in reaching, each in their own way, places unthinkable for Brazilians in the music industry.
Anitta was considered the successor to Carmen Miranda (who was Portuguese and lived in Brazil), but she went further. He has built an empire, escaped the imprisonment of style (“Boys Don’t Cry”, for example, flirts with emo), consolidated successful collaborations, performed at award shows, participated in successful television programs and graced magazine covers. He became an unstoppable train and a well-known figure abroad. He brought funk to the world.
Liniker, with his calm manner and his great talent, has shown that it is really possible for transvestites to find a place in a market that is still so prejudiced. Raised by critics and admired by renowned artists, she has made “Caju”, her latest album, a phenomenon. It sold out across Brazil and proved that a lot of wonderful art could have been wasted by such a conservative society. Liniker is a possible dream, the certainty of a better, more tolerant and diversified world.
Both have already marked their place in the history of Brazilian popular music. Both demonstrate that the country has a lot to offer. They were pioneers in their fields and can be considered pioneers and taboo breakers. They deserve all the honors.
