At least one customer in the US took Mattel to court after her daughter was exposed to a malicious link found on doll packaging: ‘irreparable harm’
THE Mattel was sued for mistakenly placing a link to a pornographic site on the packaging of her new movie dolls Evil.
The information comes from Weekly entertainmentaccording to which a woman named Holly Ricketsonfrom South Carolina, US, claims she suffered “irreparable harm” after her daughter visited the porn site.
According to the site, Holly’s daughter used an iPhone to access the site listed on the doll’s packaging, only to be exposed to a series of advertisements for pornographic websites. According to the piece, the child was “horrified” by the contents of the page.
According to the Weekly entertainment (go We weekly), the company is accused of unjust enrichment, negligence and violation of the California state law on false advertising.
According to the US Weeklya Mattel spokesperson said that “the previous misprint does not impact the values or play experience offered by the product itself, with the limited number of units sold prior to the correction.” The company further added that “the dolls Evil once again they were sold with the correct packaging in online and physical stores, to meet the strong consumer demand for the products.”
Manufacturer gets rich off Mattel mistake
With the misprint on the Mattel dolls, Wicked Pictures, responsible for the production of adult films and owner of the domain, experienced a spike in hits. Over the past two days, searches for Wicked.com have reached their highest number since mid-2012, according to Google Trends (via Variety). The actual website search EvilWickedmovie.com also grew with the publicity of Mattel’s mistake.
According to the producer, his films are pornographic parodies of feature films such as Captain Marvel (2019) e Black Widow (2021). Read more here.
