Duo recently released a version of “Love Hurts”, originally by The Everly Brothers, but turned into a hit by Nazareth
Established for decades as one of the great names in country music, Edson and Hudson they also have ties to rock. From an early age, the two listened to the musical style in question — and Hudsonin particular, recorded works oriented to the genre, with the participation of the drummer Matt Sorum (ex-Guns N’ Roses) and the bassist Mike Inez (Alice in Chains).
The connection of the brothers born in Limeira (SP) with rock was once again highlighted in one of their recent releases: a reinterpretation of “Love Hurts”. The song is also original by a duo, The Everly Brothersbut was notable for the band’s hard rock version Nazarethin the 1970s.
In an interview with Play UolEdson and Hudson revealed that they believe that the honored musical genre has everything to do with country music, with which they have become famous — not surprisingly, the cover of “Love Hurts” anticipates an album solely of romantic songs of the style, to be released in the future. Edson explains:
“[Sertanejo e rock] they have everything, everything, everything in common. […] Rock’n’roll comes from country music, it starts there. Rock came from country music in the United States. This is the greatest proof of unity.”
In turn, Hudson reinforces that both he and his brother feel respected in both styles — in other words, there is no longer the prejudice of other times. However, it does not prevent negative comments from appearing online, but this type of expression ends up being the target of reevaluation.
“There are ‘haters’, the internet judges. When you search for the person’s profile, you see that there is a zero on the left. It’s not even worth giving credit to certain types of comments. We don’t have to worry about what nasty people will comment, because we don’t make songs for them. We make music for those who enjoy our work.”
Edson and Hudson and “Love Hurts”
The version of “Love Hurts” was launched by Edson and Hudson on November 7th, as a way of honoring Dan McCafferty. The Nazareth singer passed away on November 8, 2022, at the age of 76. The idea was to pay tribute to the influential singer, two years after his departure.
In a press release, Edson commented:
“Dan was and always will be brilliant. One of the best of all time. His creativity in acting is absolutely incredible. It was tuned to the extreme. An idol who taught us how to make music.”
In turn, Hudson stated:
“Signing on to produce ‘Love Hurts’ was an honor. It’s an anthem, a song that broke all barriers and became global thanks to the talent of this guy we’re fans of. Dan left a legacy and his works will be eternal.”
