MC Cabelinho explores sounds and feelings in the new album

This week, the Rio artist released Não Sou Santo Mas Não Sou Bandido (2024), his fifth studio album and successor to Little Love (2005).

Victor Hugo Oliveira del NascimentoTHE MC Cabelinhobecame an exponent of trap in Brazil. The singer and composer from Rio released the fifth studio album of his career last Monday, entitled I’m not a saint but I’m not a criminal (2024), where he shows maturity lyrically and technically, while setting out to explore more musically.

The title of the album already carries with it a message: “We are all simple sinners, imperfect human beings, okay? We make mistakes, we do things right and no one has the right to judge anyone, only God himself”, explains the artist . in conversation with Rolling Stone Brazil.

In the two years that passed between the release of Little love (2022) e NSSMNSBCabelinho expresses an evolution that can be felt in his songs. “I have gone through a whirlwind of feelings in these two years, both professional and sentimental and, thank God, I was able to put it on paper and record it.”

He is a fundamental partner for the result we hear on the album Palmalbum producer and professional partner of little hair. “During this process we came together a lot, Palma’s rhythms, the way he produced them, were in line with my thoughts and we managed to achieve this result.”

Experiments

In NSSMNSBwe noticed a little hair the desire to play with rock elements, as well as synthesizers and real voices in the choir tracks. For those accustomed to the artist’s sound, this news sounds positive.

Palmthe producer responsible for the album, explains that they worked for a long time and made more than a hundred songs, of which only 11 are on the album. “We made a lot of songs to get to the ones we have, it was a very thorough curation and we took things from many places until we arrived at the result.”

Despite the large number of compositions, little hair I’m not sure if more songs from this batch will be released sooner or later. “It’s easier to create a song today and release it, than the ones that are in the folder.” He also has no plans to release a deluxe version of the album. “I’m really boring lately when it comes to music.”

“We explored a lot of different things, the album is a journey,” reflects the producer. “It has different genres, different influences, a lot of things happening and it caters to different types of music and feelings.”

The process, however, unfolded very organically, he recalls Palm. Thus, for example, the name of the album was born. “There was a random day where we said, ‘What if it is? I’m not a saint but I’m not a criminal?’, we already had the song that said that. So, I think these things will emerge naturally in the process.”

little hair he adds that with the same organicity, the ideas of the songs are born in the most unusual moments, like on a plane, for example. “This process is very natural and the music has to be like that,” he adds.

Clean images

For some time now, music videos little hair they had as much impact as their music. The artist used aesthetics to complement what he sings about and this era was no different. Before the album’s release, the trapper had teased fans with a secret photo posted on Instagram and, as he explains, it came from a rumor under his name.

“A blessed person on the Internet said that little hair There’s a deal, okay?” he recalls, laughing. “The thing went viral and I said ‘I’m going to take advantage of this and make something good out of something bad,’ but the deal I really have is with my family, to take me care of my family, my friends. My commitment to myself to improve every day as a human being.”

For the artist, the visual aspect is part of the working process. “You create the music and then you have to plan how it will get into the world, okay? This also counts on your image”, hence the idea, for example, of taking advantage of the bad rumors about him to promote his art. “Sometimes planning is harder than producing the sound, I was lucky that this stage created a sensation on the Internet.”

When asked what it’s like to be on stage, the artist categorically summarizes: “All my problems disappear there.”

If I go on stage, sing and see that someone sings what I have produced for hours in the studio, for me it’s better than making love, you know? It’s the ultimate pleasure, seeing someone sing my song out loud, screaming.

The stage is also where the artist carries out experiments done during rehearsals to see how the audience will react. “Thank God I really liked the experiments I did and brought to the stage. But we studied a lot in the studio how we will do it, Palma helps a lot with the transitions.”

Speaking of the producer, since the presentation at Rock in Rio he has been more involved in the creation of the shows in collaboration with foxmusical director who organized the festival show together with the singer. “On this new tour, the Palm It has to be 100% because it’s part of every song.”
