MC Cabelinho explores sounds and feelings in new album

This week, the artist from Rio de Janeiro released Não Sou Santo Mas Não Sou Bandido (2024), his fifth studio album and successor to Little Love (2005).

Victor Hugo Oliveira do Nascimentothe MC Cabelinhobecame an exponent of trap in Brazil. The singer and composer from Rio released last Monday the fifth studio album of his career, titled I’m not a saint but I’m not a criminal (2024), where he shows maturity in terms of lyrics and technically, as he sets out to explore more musically.

The title of the album alone already carries a message: “We are all mere sinners, flawed human beings, okay? We make mistakes, we get things right and no one has the right to judge anyone, only God himself,” explains the artist in conversation with Rolling Stone Brasil.

In the two years that passed between the release of Little Love (2022) and NSSMNSBCabelinho expresses an evolution that is perceived in his songs. “I went through a whirlwind of feelings during these two years, both professional and sentimental and, thank God, I managed to put it on paper and record it.”

A fundamental partner for the result we hear on the record is Palmalbum producer and professional partner of little hair. “During this process we got together a lot, Palma’s beats, the way he produced them, were in line with my thoughts and we managed to achieve this result.”

Experiments

In NSSMNSBwe noticed a little hair the desire to play with rock elements, as well as synthesizers and real voices on the choir tracks. For those who are used to the artist’s sound, these news sound positive.

Palmthe producer responsible for the album, explains that they worked for a long time and made more than a hundred songs – of which only 11 are on the album. “We made a lot of songs to get to the ones we have, it was a very extensive curation and we pulled things from many places until we arrived at the result.”

Despite the large number of compositions, little hair Not sure if other songs from this batch will be released at some point. “It’s easier to make a song today and release it, than the ones that are in the folder.” He also has no plans to release a deluxe version of the album. “I’m really boring lately when it comes to music.”

“We explored a lot of different things, the album is a journey,” reflects the producer. “It has several genres, several influences, a lot happens and addresses different types of music and feelings.”

The process, however, took place in a very organic way, recalls Palm. That’s how the name of the album came about, for example. “There was a random day when we said ‘What if it was I’m not a saint but I’m not a criminal?’, we already had the song that said that. So, I think these things will emerge naturally in the process.”

little hair he adds that with the same organicity, song ideas arise in the most unusual moments, like on a plane, for example. “This process is very natural, and music has to be like this,” he adds.

Neat visuals

For some time now, music videos little hair have had as much impact as their music. The artist has used aesthetics as a complement to what he sings and this era was no different. Before the album’s release, the trapper teased fans with an occult photo posted on Instagram and, as he explains, this came from a rumor with his name.

“A blessed person on the internet said that the little hair There’s a pact, okay?,” he recalls with a laugh. “The thing just went viral and I said ‘I’m going to take advantage of this and create something good out of something bad’, but the pact I really have is with my family, to take care of my family, my friends. My commitment to myself to improve every day as a human being.”

For the artist, the visual is part of the work process. “You create the music and then you have to plan how it will reach the world, okay? That counts on your image too,” hence the idea, for example, of taking advantage of nasty rumors about him to promote his art. “Sometimes planning is more difficult than making the sound, I was lucky that this stop created a buzz on the internet.”

The artist has worked with Rafael Carmo in the last clips. Ideas for audiovisuals usually come from the director and the singer approves of what has been done in this partnership.

‘Better than making love’

With the arrival of the new album, little hair He starts thinking about the new tour, which will start in 2025. The artist is already studying how to put together the show and sees the reception of the album as a good thermometer when it comes to putting together the repertoire. When asked what it’s like to be on stage, the artist categorically summarizes: “All my problems disappear there.”

If I go on stage, I’m singing and I see that someone is singing what I spent hours in the studio producing, that’s better for me than making love, you know? It’s the height of pleasure, seeing someone singing my song out loud, screaming.

The stage is also the place where the artist takes experiments made in rehearsal to see how the audience will react. “Thank God I’ve really enjoyed the experiments I’ve been doing and taking to the stage. But we studied a lot in the studio how we’re going to do it, Palma helps a lot with the transitions.”

Speaking of the producer, since the presentation at Rock in Rio he has been more involved in putting together the shows in partnership with foxmusical director who put together the festival performance with the singer. “On this new tour, the Palm It has to be 100% because it’s part of every song.”

Multiartist

little hair He has already shown that in addition to music, he also has talent for acting. In recent years he has been featured in soap operas Mother’s Love (2019) and Go in Faith (2024), from TV Globo. For next year he will be in Confia – Dream of Creationhis film debut.

“I’m very happy to have been invited to this film,” he says. “It tells a really cool story, similar to mine, about a boy from the favela who wants to be a musician, but works delivering food, helping his grandmother at the boarding house.” He says he intends to continue acting in soap operas, films and series.

From home to work and from work to home

When asked about his plans for next year, the artist says he wants to be “an even more low profile guy than I already am.” His focus will be health, work and being with the people he loves, reveals the musician. “Stay at home more, exercise more, do more therapy and learn to meditate too”

Creating more music is also among his resolutions, as well as becoming more and more of a homebody. “I want to be calmer, enjoy my work in the best possible way. Do my shows and go home, perform and come home. I want to stay quiet in my quiet corner. 2025 can wait a little hair very calm,” he concludes.
