Singer discovered that she would be an artist as a child, when she heard a composition written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney for the first time
It is difficult to measure the level of influence that Beatles had for music. And the situation encompasses different generations. An example of this is Sabrina Carpenter: even though she was born almost 30 years after the end of the Fab Four’s activities, the artist had her life changed by the group.
In a 2018 interview with Teen Vogue (via Ultimate Classic Rock), Carpenter pointed out the music of Beatles which practically started his career. Launched in the famous White Album (1968), “Rocky Raccoon” was heard by the little Sabrina by chance — and it was enough to ignite the spark of a future musical artist.
The singer said:
I specifically remember being with my dad driving to where he got his hair cut. I don’t know why, he didn’t really have hair… Anyway, we were going to get him a haircut and I remember him putting on this song. And immediately I was like, ‘Is this music?’.”
The opinion of Carpenter on “Rocky Raccoon” It’s interesting, as it goes beyond the lyrics or the melody. Even as a child, the artist was able to perceive nuances and typical characteristics of the compositions signed by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
Sabrina stated:
That song… I think a lot of people probably just think, ‘Oh, the Beatles they were stoned when they wrote this.’ I mean, they were high, but there’s also a story behind it, and they kind of did that with all their songs. And that made me really want to be a songwriter.”
Sabrina Carpenter Recommends: Meet Your Heroes
In 2023, Sabrina Carpenter told the Grammy.com how did you meet Paul McCartney. According to the singer, the experience could not have been better: the idol was extremely cordial and polite with the young fan.
The artist recalled:
It was at a party, which is not the environment where you want to meet your biggest idol. But he was so present and sweet and gracious to me. You know, the kind of eye contact someone makes with you and you’re like, ‘You’re a real person, I’m just not sure I believe that.’”
Sabrina also commented on the size of the influence of McCartney and of Beatles in your career. He also confessed that he was moved when he came face to face with his idol.
I’ve been so inspired by him my whole life, and I’m not sure many people know that. I think sometimes when you’re writing pop music, or whatever genre it is, I take (elements) from so many different genres, and Paul It’s always been my number one. I definitely started crying a little, which isn’t something I do a lot. I will remember this forever and hope I can see him again.”
The inspiration has paid off: Sabrina Carpenter performed songs like “Espresso”, “Please Please Please” and “Taste”with big numbers on streaming platforms and music charts. All this in less than 10 years of career, the same time as Beatles were active.
