Henrique Morelenbaum was born as Saul Herz Morelenbaum, on September 5, 1931, in Poland, and came to Brazil in his youth, subsequently becoming naturalized. He studied viola, violin, conducting and composition at the UFRJ School of Music, becoming a doctor and professor at the institute.
Also according to the Municipal Theater Documentation Center, he started as a conductor by accident, in 1959, when the conductor who would direct a Margot Fonteyn ballet show was unable to arrange the baton, providing Henrique’s debut.
