When revealing himself as a fan of the genre, the iconic Beatles drummer mentioned an artist who hasn’t released anything new since 2013

The new album by Ringo Starr, Look Upthe former drummer of Beatles to his love of country music, particularly classic country. “I like old country, old style, and that’s what we got,” he told Rolling Stone in a new interview.
But Starr also surprised us when he revealed that he was a fan of the eclectic country artist responsible for songs like “Hellbilly”, “Mississippi Mud” and “Crazed Country Rebel”.
“Just to mess with the minds and brains of everyone in Nashville: how is Hank the Third?” Starrreferring to Hank Williams III.
The grandson of Hank Williams was responsible for mixing heavy metal with outlaw country for a series of albums, starting with Risin’ Outlaw 1999. After releasing a pair of records in 2013, the country LP Brothers of the 4×4 and the punk project The Fiendish Threat, Williams left the scene.
I liked the records he made. It has a differentiator. I started with hankthe first one, and I kind of skipped over hankthe second, and I reached the third.” (hankIII is the son of Hank Williams Jr.)”, recalls Starr.
While recording Look Up with the producer T-Bone Burnett, Starr worked with a new crop of bold artists, including the blues-rock duo Larkin Poethe bluegrass iconoclast Molly Tuttle and the quick strummer Billy Strings.
Molly has a great voice, and Billy He’s an incredible guitarist. Someone was telling me he played heavy metal before. I never heard that part.”
These artists will share the stage with Starr during two performances in Nashville. The shows will be recorded and shown in the coming months and will feature hits from Beatles and the musician’s solo career, all oriented towards country. In addition, part of the proceeds will be directed to actions against the fires in California.
We’re doing a live show and I’m excited because I want to hear ‘A Little Help From My Friends’ in a country style,” says Starr. “AND ‘Octopus’s Garden’ too, of course.”
