Sound and video installation at Casa Iramaia
Patti Smith, who will perform at Cultura Artística, in São Paulo, at the end of January, will also open an exhibition in collaboration with the group Soundwalk Collective at Casa Iramaia, in Jardins. The space, designed by modernist Gregori Warchavchik, is part of the Mendes Wood DM gallery.
In the exhibition, Smith uses his voice to recite poetry that mixes with the sounds of nature in sound installations. The videos featured contrasting elements such as fire and water, one of which brought together images of fires recorded since the artist was born in Chicago in the 1940s. Another film features verses sung during a journey along the Amazon River, reflecting on the relationship between humans and the environment.

Patti Smith and Soundwalk Collective’s exhibition marks the beginning of the gallery’s 2025 program in São Paulo. The exhibitions of Brazilian artists Anna Bella Geiger and Paulo Monteiro continue in the Barra Funda space.

Patti Smith will perform on January 28 at the Festival Verão Sem Censura, which will also feature performances by Maria Bethânia and Zé Miguel Wisnik, as well as plays and discussions on freedom of expression at the Teatro Cultura Artística.
