Eloy Casagrande praises Greyson Nekrutman, who replaced him in Sepultura

The Brazilian said he identified with the American’s situation, as they both joined the group very young, and highlighted the talent of his successor

In an interview with Modern drummer (go Igor Miranda’s website), Casagrande praised not only Nekrutman’s talent, but also the fact that they both joined Sepultura at a very young age. The American, former member of Suicidal tendencieshe joined the group formed in Brazil at the age of 21, the same situation as his predecessor, who joined his former partners at the end of 2011.

“When I see him play, I remember myself in that same position. When I joined Sepultura, I was his age. He’s really interesting. He’s a really good drummer. I used to watch the videos he posted on social media when he played more jazz. and did drum solos. He’s a brilliant musician and I wish him and the rest of the band all the best.

Eloy went further and revealed that he had a dream: to reunite all the drummers who had passed through Sepultura at some point. This also includes the founding member Iggor Cavalera and its direct replacement Jean Dolabellawho preceded the Slipknot member.

“I’d like to talk to him more one day. Maybe we could get all the drummers from Sepultura together.”

Also during the interview, Eloy Casagrande revealed that he received Greyson Nekrutman in his studio before the start of Sepultura’s tour. The American used the facility for testing and had a little help from the station’s former occupant.

“Greyson came to my studio in Sao Paulo when he joined the band to do some rehearsals and we had a great conversation. He only had two or three weeks to learn all the songs, so I gave him some advice, like: ‘ We played this song faster” or “be careful with this one because we played it slower”. But I wasn’t teaching him to play the songs, because he can play whatever he wants. He’s an incredible drummer.”

Sepultura and Slipknot

Sepultura’s farewell tour is expected to continue until 2026, with a final show in Sao Paulo. It is assumed that the presentation will take place in a large space and will welcome several former members. An EP of new songs recorded with Greyson Nekrutman is expected to accompany a live box set from the tour.

In turn, Slipknot continue to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their debut album, with the show already brought to Brazil for Knot Festivalin October. There are plans to release a new album, the first with Eloy Casagrande.
