João Gordo We lost 53 kg in just over a year. Aware that he was not adept at healthy habits – to say the minimum – the singer of the Basement rats And presenter went through bad mouths until he decided to take action.

Now 60 years old, Gordo was hospitalized due to pulmonary problems more than once only in 2019. On other occasions, as in 2022, he shared records where he appeared with inhalation mask and oximeter on his finger. He suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) – which has no cure but can be controlled with treatment. At the time, he even said:

“I’m not dying, but if I keep marking, I can die. I have a lung problem. […] When it changes time, winter, I’m full of phlegm and I can’t sleep. ”

In addition, the musician has arthrosis in the femur and injuries to both knees and two shoulders. Needed a cane to perform in the Rock in Rio 2022. All these problems and death in 2023 of Jabá, the original bassist of the basement rats, led him to adopt a healthier routine.

In an interview with GQthe singer and presenter said that in 2003 he underwent bariatric surgery. Of 200 kg, it was 127 kg, but recovered much of this weight in the following years. When she was hospitalized in 2019, she reached 178 kg, in a situation aggravated by the use of corticosteroids.

Prior to that, however, in 2003, the musician had already performed bariatric surgery when weighed 200 kg. With the procedure, it reached 127 kg, but in the following years, it returned to fat. In 2019, due to pneumonia, he spent six months in a hospital and gained more weight due to the use of corticosters, reaching 178 kg. He comments:

“I was 60 years last year, and thought, ‘Puts, if I follow this pace I am, I don’t think I arrive at 64, I’m going to die soon’. I thought, ‘I need to find a way to lose weight, otherwise I’m going to die.’ My goal is to live these next 10 years – which I believe I will live smoothly – smoothly. I want to stay alive. ”

Gordo, who has been a vegetarian for 24 years, adopted a pronokal diet, focused on protein and recommended only with professional accompaniment. He also abandoned the alcohol and started boxing twice a week. At one point, he even resorted to Semaglutida (Ozepic), but it didn’t work out.

“In less than a year of diet, I lost almost 40kg. In what I started to lose weight, I decided that I was going to start moving and got into boxing, over a year ago. This combination of training and diet is working. I’m in a much better phase than two years ago. ”

John’s next purpose is to be able to practice bodybuilding. It is not yet possible, due to problems caused by obesity, but is in its plans.

João Gordo and the loss of jabá

In another interview, UOLJoão Gordo detailed his feeling as he was at the wake of Jabá. The musician died in December 2023 at the age of 60.
