Anitta became the first Brazilian to be nominated in one of the categories of the MTV Video Music Awards, the world’s leading award for music videos. The nominees were revealed this Tuesday (7/26) and she is competing in the category of the best Latin music video with the hit video “Envolver”.
The singer celebrated the feat on social media: “Collecting the first times”, she wrote. Her comment refers to her official entry into the Book of Records as “the first Latin solo artist to reach number 1 on Spotify”. “Envolver” topped the platform’s global rankings with 6.39 million streams on March 24th.
Competing with Anitta for the MTV award are Bad Bunny (“Tití me Preguntó”), Becky GX Carol G (“MAMIII”), Daddy Yankee (“Remix”), Farruko (“Pepas”) and J Balvin & Skrillex ( “In Da Getto”).
Also making history at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards was Madonna, who, at the age of 63, became the only artist to be nominated for the award in every decade of her existence, since its launch in 1984. MTV , with 20 hits, this year competes in the Best Long-Term Video category, with “Madame X”.
The artists with the most nominations were rappers Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow and Kendrick Lamar, who were cited seven times each. Nas and Harlow are together, also in Video of the Year and Best Collaboration with the song “Industry Baby”, a partnership of the two.
Harry Styles and Doja Cat subsequently appear with six nominations, followed by Drake, Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, and The Weekend with five each.
The VMA awards are scheduled for August 28, a Sunday, at 19:00 (Brasilia time).
