Guitarist was invited to choose his favorite song; In response, he cited four tracks, three of them from the same studio album
With seven studio albums released, the Oasis He built a vast repertoire of hits and, of course, “side B” songs also worshiped by fans. But what would be the best songs in this catalog?
It’s not easy to answer, at least for those who like the group. Still, Noel Gallagher It has your answer at the tip of your tongue.
The guitarist and main composer of the band said briefly addressed the issue in an interview with photographer Kevin Cummins for the book Oasis: The Masterplan (via NME). Interestingly, almost all the tracks chosen by the musician come from the debut album Definery Maybe (1994).
He said:
“Can I have more than one favorite song? ‘SuperSonic’, ‘Some Might Say’, ‘Live Forever’ and ‘Rock’n’roll star’. ”
Only the second track cited comes from (What’s the story) Morning Glory? (1995), according to Oasis album. In an interview prior to NMEthe older Gallagher said he does not like the sound of the work in question, just the best -selling career of the group. At the time, he analyzed all discography by stating:
“Well, I don’t like the sound of Morning Glory not at all. The only perfect album would be Definery Maybe. Be here now (1997), the songs are too long. Standing on the Shoulders of Giants (2000) has no music good enough and has a lot of filler. HEATHEN CHEMISTRY (2002) had some good: ‘Little by Little’ and ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’the rest is a little ‘Meh’. Don’t Believe the Truth (2005) is very good, Dig out your soul (2008) kind of falls at the end. They are all flawed somehow. ”

Oasis’s worst album for Noel Gallagher
In an interview of 2017 to Q MagazineNoel Gallagher expressed a lack of appreciation for a specific career work. According to him, the album Be here nowthat succeeded Definery Maybe and (What’s the story) Morning Glory?“Do not be sustained.”
“In the studio, he was great. The day he was released, it was great. It was only when I went on tour I thought: ‘This is not sustained here.’ […] Don’t understand me badly, I autographed a lot of copies of this album every year. People are prepared to fight with me on the street, saying, ‘I love this album!’ But I know how much effort I put there. And it wasn’t so much. ”

In many other interviews, Noel reinforced his point on Be here now. In 2018, talking to Talia Schlanger, he even said he hates the album.
“It was the first time I was asked to compose a album as the biggest composer in the world. So I turned under this pressure, I think. I hate this album. And for no reason other than the fact that I was there when it was created – and I shouldn’t have created it.”
The guitarist was afraid, but was encouraged by virtually everyone around him to record and launch the material. “Did I know it was bad? Honestly, I made it up on vacation – and you shouldn’t compose rock records wearing shorts. I came back to London with the tapes demo thinking it was all right.”he said, before complementary:
“I put on to play and everyone found the best thing in history, so I thought maybe it was good. Everyone around – businessmen, label, the rest of the band – said it was amazing. In the press, I received the best criticism. But I remember it was on tour and was very apparent after four weeks, that the new songs were not on the old level.”
Although he sold more than 8 million copies worldwide (beating sales records, especially in his early days) and switching songs like “Stand by Me” and “D’Eth Know What I Mean?”, Be here now Today is remembered for being somewhat long and oscillating a lot in quality among its compositions.
