“Kk [Downing, ex-guitarrista do Judas Priest] and Glenn [Tipton, guitarrista afastado] are responsible for the title of our album Blackout (1982). They came to my hotel room with two or three bottles of beer and said, ‘Let’s drink to celebrate the tour.’ I agreed, but said it was not enough. We would have to drink the way Scorpions: whiskey, red wine and, on top, beer, because of white foam. Suddenly, Glenn He asked, ‘Hey, where are the leppies?’ It was the nickname of DEF Leppard. We went to their room. I said, ‘I can’t believe you are here watching TV’. I grabbed the glass and poured the whole drink on TV. The result? I was almost arrested and didn’t even remember anything. ”
The next day, Schenker shared the story with Meine and the drummer of the time, Herman Rarebell. That’s when the guitarist discovered the term that would appoint the album he presented to fans the classic “No One Like You”.
“The first thing that Herman He said when he learned of what happened: ‘Do you know what you had? A blackout. I asked, ‘What blackout?’ And he replied, ‘Yes, when you don’t remember these things, it’s called Blackout’ ” Herman It was already leaving when he turned and said, ‘By the way, this is a good name for an album.’ And so it was born Blackoutthe album! ”
Soon, the Scorpions landing for a tour of Brazil. The band presents itself as the main attraction of Monsters of Rock, a festival that takes place at Allianz Parque, in São Paulo, on April 19. Brasília is also on the route, with performance of the group at the Arena of Rock Festival, on April 16, besides Rio de Janeiro, with solo presentation of the whole in Qualistage, April 21. Judas Priest takes the stage in the first two appointments with more attractions.
