Swedish band became famous for sound from Glam Metal, but since its meeting in the 2000s, brings blues rock -oriented approach
Of the names of hard rock that were successful in the 1980s, the Europe It is among those who have best managed to reinvent themselves. The group broke in 1992 and returned in 2003 after a punctual meeting in 1999. Since then, post-turn albums have reflected little to the sound practiced earlier.
In an interview with Rolling Stone Brazilthe vocalist Joey Tempest He recalled how the Swedish group meeting was significant for the change of sound. With the guitarist John Norum – which had left in 1986 – Back in the band, Glam Metal with strong keyboard load gave way to a blues rock where the guitar is on the front line, but without leaving the other instruments overshadowed.
He said:
“We met in early 2000, in the apartment of Mic Michaeli in Stockholm. John It was back. We said, ‘Let’s make a journey together. Let’s have an adventure and explore sounds’. We were not so interested in repeating ourselves all the time, as some bands do, because they have their fans. I don’t think this is a bad thing; I think it’s cool, because fans feel at home every time there is a new album. But we thought a little different. We want to cheer up too. Each new album is a new adventure. ”

In the singer’s view, an even more veteran group serves as an inspiration: the Deep Purple. Regarding the English colleagues, he says:
“There are some bands that do this, but the Deep Purple It has always been an inspiration to us in this regard. They also have sound twists, we like it. This keeps us excited. I hope the fans will enjoy it too. Obviously, there will be fans who want to hear the same thing as The Final Countdown All the time, but it’s hard for us, we wouldn’t be happy to try to repeat things. We want to keep the melodies and connect with the audience, but we want a new beginning with each album – although in this next record we will have some connection with the past. ”
It does not mean, however, that Temple And your colleagues stop looking back. The quintet demonstrates a lot of respect for the legacy built over 46 years on the road – a number that makes the singer surprised, since, when younger, I did not imagine having such a lasting career.
“When you are younger, you think two weeks ahead. Today we plan three to five years ahead, because time moves different now. When you are older, everything goes faster. When you think you are unbeatable. You get on the wave, though sometimes falling for it and take a few years to return. 2024, when we turned 45, was very exciting. Special. We still can’t believe that we follow together.
