According to guitarist L.Mayland, the group is plunging into more intense topics and responding to today’s world with raw, honest and fun tracks
After the overwhelming success with PRELUDE TO ECSTASYthe The Last Dinner Party already works on your second album – and, according to L.Mayland (previously known as Lizzie Mayland), the new creative paths dive into darker and viscerally emotional territories.
In an interview with NME, L.Mayland – which has also just released its first solo EP, The Slow Fire of Sleep – commented that the band’s new album is “darker” and inspired by “heavy themes” and a collective need to process intense emotions in the face of difficult times. “It’s a very dark period, and I think this is reflected in music. We are in tune with the world,” he said.
Known as one of the guitarists and composers of the British quintet, Mayland He pointed out that the new songs have a more “angry and political” energy, both in the soil and group work project.

Despite the emotional density, the weather is not totally downbeat. “There are also some dancing tracks, angry and fun tracks. I will not go into many details yet … You will have to wait to see,” he joked.
The debut album PRELUDE TO ECSTASY earned the group a Brit Award, nomination for Mercury prize and praise of names like St. Vincent, Cmat, Brian May and many others. With the growing expectation around the second chapter of this trajectory, L.Mayland It stresses that each member of the band carries very different influences, something that now gains even more evidence with its parallel projects.
About the solo EP, it cites references ranging from Labi siffre and Adrianne Lenker the Jeff Buckley, Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Etta James and Nick Drake. “I have always been attracted to melancholy and introspective songs,” he said.
Maybe people have a different perception of me because of the band, but our ethos has always been this: we are five individuals with huge and varied tastes. ”
