Guns n ‘Roses and band led by the praised singer have mutual admiration, with the rereading of studio and live hits
Somehow, it was established in the media that the Guns n ‘Rosesin particular Axl Rosehad a bad relationship with grunge in general. Part of this history proceeds, since the vocalist even throw away a ribbon from the Alice in Chains received by the guitarist Jerry Cantrell and, more notoriously, was involved in a confusion with Kurt Cobainfrontman of Nirvana – Although you liked your band.
However, Rose did not repudiate grunge as a whole. In addition to appreciating Nirvana, he saw a lot of quality in a band of the movement even before his burst: the Soundgardenwhich would stand out in the early 1990s.
In an interview of 1989 to Rolling Stone USA (via Far Out), Axl was invited to share some of his musical preferences at that time. After mentioning classic and alternative names, the singer highlighted not only the work of Soundgarden, but also the vocal quality of Chris Cornelladmittedly superior to it in the function.
“Lately, I have heard Derek and the Dominos [projeto de Eric Clapton] and Bar-kays [grupo de funk/R&B]. I really like the first album of Patti Smith [Horses, 1975]. I’m just starting to find out The Cure. I keep trying to find things to open me. I love Soundgarden. The vocalist simply buries me. The guy sings very well. In the ballad circuit, I like the Saigon Saloon. ”

Mutual respect between Axl Rose and Chris Cornell
Chris Cornell, curiously, also appreciated Axl Rose’s work. No wonder the singer re -recorded the hit “Patience”from Guns N ‘Roses, in 2016, a year before his death at age 52. The rereading is on the album No One Sings Like You Anymore, Vol. 1released posthumously by 2020.
Days after Cornell’s death in May 2017, GN’R showed respect to the artist by playing live “Black Hole Sun”the biggest success of Soundgarden. The track was maintained in the repertoire in the following years and, according to the setlist.fm, was performed more than 100 times live by Rose and company.
