The DC Extended Universe has always been a mixed bag when it comes to what upcoming DC movies take a post-credit sting and those who don’t. It’s not as uniformly implemented a practice as in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so you never know where the next one will come from. Here’s why when DC League of Super Pets it actually had one of those sequences built in, which was a pleasant surprise.
What’s even more shocking is that Dwayne Johnson pretty much wanted it to exist and ended up voicing three different characters in the process. Why did Dwayne Johnson play Black Adam, Anubis and Krypto in DC League Of Super-Pets?
Here’s a quick rundown of what happened in the post-credits scene DC League of Super Pets. Basically, after the events of the movie, Superman (John Krasinski) and Krypto (Dwayne Johnson) return to the park to play fetch with Krypto’s favorite toy: Squeaky Bruce.
That peace doesn’t last long, when a new pair of anti-heroes arrive, in animated form, at this Metropolis park: Black Adam (also Johnson) and his dog Anubis (also Johnson). There is verbal chatter about the meaning of an “antihero”, which Anubis claims to be himself, and that’s basically what happens before the scene ends.
As I spoke to co-writer / director Jared Stern on press day for DC League of Super Pets, I had to ask him some questions. First of all, I was curious if Dwayne Johnson could be recast in the roles of black adam little heroic protagonist and his four-legged friend. After all this this is a separate continuity, and that may be too much even for the ever prolific Johnson. From what Stern told Gossipify, there was only one way for a redesign:
The only reason we would do this is if it got too loud. [like] you couldn’t tell who was talking to whom. We tried it when Dwayne did it. We declined a bit and made a slightly different entry for Anubis, who is Black Adam’s dog. We took a little ride, tried it and thought, “This is great! It is funny!’ You could say he’s talking to her, but he sounds like two different people, in the funniest way. And, of course, it’s Black Adam too, using a third voice. then I come [thought] Why not push it until it breaks? We have three Dwayne Johnson in one scene. It’s the perfect way to end a movie.
It’s a scene that fits the tone and humor perfectly DC League of Super Pets I was pointing. Unsurprisingly, Dwayne Johnson played all three roles and it worked perfectly. It’s good he did too, because all of the black adam Stinger was Johnson’s idea in the first place.
How Black Adam’s post-credits Stinger was born
No doubt it stemmed from his obsession with bites black adam versus Superman, Another look at the future of DC Comics cinema was born. By investigating the existence of this sequence, Jared Stern was able to confirm that Black Adam was not originally slated to be a part of the film. Although he was a little confused as to how Dwayne Johnson came up with the idea, Stern knew it was The Rock himself who created the moment with this memory:
It came later. I don’t remember exactly how. I mean, it could have been Dwayne’s idea to have a Black Adam dog in the movie as well, which we loved. And we just had to find the right way to do it. So thank him for that.
There is a person who remembers how DC League of Super Pets had his last laugh in the movie. It is not yet clear how those plans will be affected by the upheaval at Warner Bros. Discovery. For now, the fact that DC League of Super Pets first place at the box office this past weekend might work in your favor. But just in case, Dwayne Johnson may want to set aside a part of Teremana to define his grand plans so that he can present them as effectively as possible to the new management.
