After six years away from the studios, David Byrne It’s back with a new solo album. Entitled Who is the sky?the album will be released on September 5 by Matador Records and has participation of names such as Hayley Williams (Paramore), St. Vincent, Tom Skinner (The Smile) and Mauro Refosco. The production is due to Kid Harpoonwinner of Grammy by work with Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus.
First single now available: Listen to “Everybody Laughs”
The kick -off of the new phase came with the release of the single “Everybody Laughs”which reached the streaming platforms accompanied by an official music video directed by the multimedia artist Gabriel Barcia-Colombo. The track brings Byrne reflecting on everyday life and the human condition, with a dancing groove and apotheotic final alongside St. Vincent.
“Everyone lives, dies, laughs, cries, sleeps and looks at the ceiling,” says Byrne. “Music can do this, contain opposites at the same time.”
Orchestra, grooves and weight collaborations
The twelve ranges of Who is the sky? have arrangements signed by Ghost train orchestraNew York collective that mixes strings, blows, metals and percussion. The idea came after Byrne watch an orchestra performance in honor of the composer Moonandog.
The production was due to Kid Harpoonwho entered the project after a casual meeting at a party in Santa Monica. According to the producer, the tracks are “personal observations that reveal the unique perspective of David About the absurdity of life ”.
Existentialist letters and refined humor
Who is the sky? brings a Byrne More narrative and humorous, with tracks that work as small chronicles. International tour starts in September
To promote the disc, David Byrne embarks on a new tour that starts on September 14 in the US. The shows will feature a band of 13 musicians, singers and dancers, some of them remnants of the phase American utopia, and will bring the aesthetics of constant movement on the stage.
European dates are scheduled for March 2026. Tickets have not yet been officially announced.
Psychedelic cover and visual concept
The art of Who is the sky? was created by the artist Shira Inbar in partnership with the Belgian designer Tom van der Borght. Byrne It appears almost camouflaged between colorful patterns and extravagant costumes, such as a mythical creature that symbolizes the themes of transcendence and freedom present on the album.
