Music that Josh Homme (Qotsa) only makes up songs on the guitar instead of guitar

Leader of Queens of the Stone Age explains how most of the band’s songs come about and tells how was the presentation “acoustic” in the catacombs of Paris

Despite having its history linked to genres in which the guitar is protagonist, such as Stoner and alternative rock in general, the Queens of the Stone Age Loves to create on the guitar. Is what states Josh Hommeleader and main composer of the band.

According to him, much of Qotsa’s repertoire, including the most intense hits, as “Go with the flow” and “Song for the Dead”were born from riffs initially tested on the guitar.

In an interview with Uncut (via Guitar.com), the frontman born in Palm Springsus United Statesexplains:

“Most of our songs start with us sitting on the edge of the bed, playing guitar. If something works there, it works everywhere.”

Homme acknowledges, of course, that later everything gets a new outfit when the instruments are plugged. However, he points out that Qotsa has many good songs that work in acoustic format.

“I feel that these songs really change their intensity. When things are stripped down, the lyrics stand out, emotions get much hotter and more intense. We are a band that has always had a lot of emotion on display, but somehow we are not as known to our softer side as we may.”

Queens of the Stone acts on the catacombs of Paris

This other facet of Queens of the Stone Age It could be shown in the latest project, launched this month: Alive in the Catacombs.

Such material recorded the band’s presentation in Paris Catacombsin France. The site, of course, does not have electricity, which makes it impossible to use electrical instruments. The songs were performed in mostly acoustic versions.

Josh Homme reflects:

“The catacombs are the star of the show, so all the decisions we made were for respect to space. You can’t connect anything – we had an electric piano attached to a car battery. The floor was wet in some areas, as if we were in something alive and pulsating. It seemed that we shouldn’t play the hits so high.”

Alive in the Catacombs It was recorded and filmed in July 2024, just before Josh Homme underwent emergency surgery that led to the cancellation of various groups of the group in the European summer.

THE Queens of the Stone Age It was the first band authorized to play in the catacombs of Paris, a bone over 300 kilometers in the underground of the French capital. There are deposited bones and remains of millions of people over the centuries, which led Homme to play: “It is the largest audience we have already played.”
