Music Criticism of Ed Motta to the Brazilian public after quoting lack of shows

Before performing in São Paulo last Saturday, May 28, musician says he had not played in Brazil since November and guilt “lynching”

Ed Motta attacks again. This time, the musician complained about the lack of shows in Brazil And he said he was a victim of what he considers an alleged “lynching” by the Brazilian public due to a series of controversies in which he was involved.

Before performing in São Paulo last Saturday, May 28, in what was his first national appearance since November 2024, Ed Motta gave an interview to CBN Radio. The artist claimed that he has paid a high price for his opinions.

According to Ed, there is a public censorship often do not agree with what he says (transcription via Metropolis):

“I’m without a show since November last year, this is not normal. This is a retaliation on the opinion, it’s a form of veiled censorship.”

In recent times, Ed Motta has gotten involved in different controversies. See a brief list:

1) In 2025, he fired at Maria BethâniaHe said she “did not study music” and criticized her for scolding a musician during a show;
2) In 2024, he said that “who hears a stupid hip-hop” and self-defined as a “sophisticated black”-later apologizing;
3) Still in 2024, he criticized and fired a Roadie on stage during a show – also depicting later;
4) In 2023, he said he hates shows, either to watch or when he does himself;
5) In 2022, detonated artists as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Raul Seixas and all the Brazilian rock of the 1980s – partially depicting.

In the chat with CBN, the musician claimed that only in Brazil is important to statements like these and that outside people are unaware or not even call their lines:

“I pay a price for that, in Brazil mainly. Outside Brazil no one even knows that.”

And he added, calling the Brazilian public:

“In my interviews that I do away (from the country) the guys are super radical: ‘And then Ed Motta, the new jazz, what do you think?’ I go down the sledgehammer and we don’t have to end this fat life because he just talked badly about jazz ‘.

Ed Motta doesn’t regret it, but get quiet

Ed Motta concluded by saying that he does not regret the controversial opinions he has already made – although he has often gone public to retract. He also added that he just intends not to manifest himself frequently to avoid wear.

“What I learned from this is that I have to shut up my mouth, that’s all. I don’t regret anything, I didn’t change any opinion, I just have to be quiet, have emotional intelligence to be quiet, like most humans.”
