Bad Bunny criticizes the United States and Trump in a clip released on July 4th

Video “Nuevayol” questions American anti-immigration politics

The Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny used the US Independent DayCelebrated on July 4, to launch one of the most politicized clips of his career. The track “Nuevayol”, part of the album “Debí to take bad photos”, won a video with a strong criticism of the American anti-immigration policies and a satire directed to the former president Donald Trump.

Recorded with a provocative and symbolic aesthetic, the clip shows scenes of Latin immigrants and workers, while bringing loaded political references. In one of the most discussed moments, a group of men listen to a voice on a radio that imitates Donald Trump.

In the simulation, the character portrays the policies implemented while I am in power, recognizing the relevance of various citizens in the construction of the United States: “I made a mistake. I want to apologize to American immigrants, the United States, because America is the entire continent. This country would not be anything without the Mexicans, the Domenici, the port-Etile, the Colombans, the Venezuelan …”

Another moment of strong impact is when Bad Bunny appears in the upper part of the statue of Liberdade, brandishing the flag of Puerto Rico. The scene is a clear tribute to the Tito Kayak activist, who in 2000 climbed the monument in protest for the independence of the Caribbean island. Currently, Puerto Rico is considered an unrelated territory of the United States, with an indefinite political status, which feeds the discussion on its autonomy.

The clip was strategically published during the American holidays and strengthens Bad Bunny’s critical position as regards the way the United States treat immigrants and territories under its jurisdiction. The artist had already expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment given to Puerto Rico on several occasions, especially after offensive comments made during the 2024 presidential campaign by Republican supporters.

Bad Bunny: political album and tour away from the United States

“Nuevayol” integrates a politically involved project. In songs such as “Bokete” and “Lo that le Pasó a Hawaii”, the singer deals with topics such as precarious infrastructures, gentrification and imperialism. He questioned the American rule on Puerto Rico and recalls historical episodes of colonization and cultural exploitation.

Bad Bunny also surprised to leave the United States outside his next world tour. In an interview with Variety, he explained that he had already performed in the country on countless occasions and that, at this moment, he would have preferred to concentrate on other territories. The tour begins with a residence in Puerto Rico in July and includes presentations in Brazil in February 2026.

The “Nuevayol” clip already repercussions on social networks compliment the artist’s political positioning and his courage to launch such a straightforward content on a symbolic date for the Americans.
