CM Punk reveals one of AEW’s biggest obstacles and what they need to improve

When AEW first started, there were questions as to whether he would rival the WWE wrestling giant. Fast forward to now and Tony Khan’s company is thriving on a roster that boasts home-grown talent and even former WWE key players. also managed bring legendary superstar CM Punk out of retirement . AEW has the talent to do great things, but according to Punk there is still one hurdle to overcome.

Gossipify spoke with CM Punk and other AEW superstars at San Diego Comic-Con and discussed the challenges facing the company now that it has as talented as former WWE superstar Bryan Danielson in their ranks. Punk explained that the challenge now is to find the time to show his extensive roster and make everyone involved feel important:

Honestly, for me, the biggest hurdle we’re facing right now is the most talented roster I think I’ve ever been on in any way. It’s hard to make everyone shine as bright as they think.

Even with AEW seemingly on the sidelines with one of their biggest local superstars like MJF (his the merchandise was even removed ), the wrestling organization is not lacking in talent. It’s thanks to Tony Khan’s eye for getting popular free agents from independent wrestling organizations, as well as up-and-coming WWE talent who never got the boost they deserved while Vince McMahon was in charge.

AEW has a comprehensive roster of male and female Superstars who can lead the organization for years to come. The problem is that there is only a limited number of hours that AEW can devote each month to its TV programming AEW: Dynamite, Carnagepay-per-view, and now the new honor ring. CM Punk explained everything below and how the problem even makes him question his views on wrestling shows:

It is difficult, right? I don’t really think a wrestling show should last three hours. I think two hours can be a bit long sometimes. But then I look at a Rampage, and then an hour feels too hairy and rushed. Then Tony acquired Ring of Honor and now we’re splitting the time with the Ring of Honor pay-per-views that we’re trying to focus and highlight in this way. There is so much talent and it keeps adding more and more talented people and I’m not against it. I just think we need to do better to showcase some of the most talented people we have.

The AEW has been criticized by fans, most notably for not highlighting the talented women’s division. Only a few stars get TV every week, and while this isn’t necessarily uncommon in wrestling organizations, having such a large roster requires spreading the love to show more talent. This is especially true if they are hoping to someday have someone like John Cena on the show, which CM Punk and Bryan Danielson spoke to Gossipify about.

And even if we will never really know what it led to Cody Rhodes leaves AEW (an organization he helped found) for back to wwe , it goes without saying that AEW also has its challenges. For now, however, most fans appear to be far more positive than negative, and while they will have to continue working to allocate TV time, this is likely to be a long-term balancing act.

AEW: Dynamite aired on TBS Wednesdays at 8pm ET e Carnage airs Fridays at 10pm ET on TNT. Make sure you record it on the DVR, especially since then new shows appear on TV every day, so you don’t get lost in the din.
