Because Rodolfo Abrantes has spent years without performing outside the religious shows

Notorious singer for working with Raimundos has decided to abandon the conventional phases after the end of the Rodox, but now he is returning to them

Rodolfo Abrantes changed the focus of his career ending in 2004 the Auctiongang that formed after the controversial departure from Raimundos. Converted to Protestantism at the beginning of the century, the artist stopped performing in conventional spaces to perform only in religious events and built a repertoire of gospel music.

Only in 2024 the singer and guitarist decided to return to the previous lines of live performance, with tours that occupied concert halls. With his current excursion, “microphone”, which debuted last year in San Paolo, the artist has a series of dates scheduled between October and December in the city such as Porto Alegre, Brasilia and Blumenaau.

In an interview with Felipe Branco Cruz for the Journal Voja, Abrantes admitted that he had lost the most conventional phases. However, he clarified that he did not abandon his musical career – he only directed efforts to various activities.

“During this period I presented myself only during the services, because music is also part of this environment. Even if I didn’t play at the concert, I launched many songs and I felt pushed to return. I still have my way of composing and the adrenaline that I feel on stage is so great that my head takes about three hours to turn off.”

When he was invited to reflect if religion brought him out of the stage, Rodolfo underlined the real reasons for the dismissal of more traditional live presentation formats. According to him, the trauma generated by the break with Raimundos and the end of Rodox – a group that has already brought religious themes in their texts – has brought to this distance.

“My departure from Raimundos generated some trauma, not only for me, but for the band itself and fans. I faced an environment of a certain animosity. Then I created the Rodox, with religious music, and the band suffered a lot for my faith.

Rodolfo Abrantes does not sing Raimundos songs

Anyone who goes to one of Rodolfo Abrantes’ shows should expect songs of his solo career and Rodox. No Raimundos, a band that made him nationally in the 90s.

In an interview from 2020 to the program The night with Danilo Gentili (Via Wiplash), Abrantes was sincere enough in revealing the reason. The topic was addressed after Roger Moreirasinger and guitarist of the program resident of the program, PenaltyAsk why God would be against the group’s songs. The artist replied:

“It is not God who has something against the songs. Many people tend to think that a boy was a beautiful band and came out because he went to the church, but he is much deeper. I had a life and I lived according to what I thought. I sang exactly what I lived. I put the names of the people in the follars that I lived, I exposed a lot.

In converting religiously, Abrantes knew what “truth” called: Jesus Christ. This transformed him as a person, who also led to a change in his private soundtrack. In addition, the artist clarified that Raimundos has always sung what he has experienced. Therefore, today, it could not interpret songs like those of the old.

“I refuse to sing something that I don’t have my heart. Including, I didn’t sing many songs that I have done since I entered the church. In some of them, I discovered theological errors that I learned in front, or things I said absurd bullshit. And I discovered that music has an incredible power to teach. So I left these songs. It was.

Still in the middle of the interview, Rodolfo Abrantes said he had a very tumultuous relationship with his past. In the last two decades, the singer has simply avoided any topic relating to Raimundos. Today he recognizes that “nobody was born from Christ with maturity”.

“The impression when it comes to someone less mature is that your past seems to run behind you, wanting to pull you. I ran away from it and there is a time when you don’t have to run, but I spent 19 years of my life to run. If someone spoke of my past, I ran. […] Today I can look at my past and respect it. I don’t want to go back, but I look at my story and I deal with respect and gratitude. “
