Bassist who was part of one of Thrash Metal’s main bands considers that one of his most famous hits also sounds like “Pop Music”
In 1992, the Megadeth released the album Countdown to Extinction and reached its commercial peak, driven mainly by the hit “Symphony of Destruction”. The music was a success on rock specialized radio and also in MTV.
For the bassist David Ellefsonthis has an explanation. “Symphony of Destruction” Part of a pop structure, with well -defined verses, bridge and chorus, as well as having a crystalline recording, without the weight and aggressiveness of the band’s first albums, which helped to define the parameters of Thrash Metal.
When making this comment in an interview with the channel Wrif’s Meltdown (via Ultimate Guitar), the musician also ended up drawing a parallel with the Linkin Park – which, according to Ellefson, sounded like BACKSTREET BOYS When it arose at the turn of the century.

The bassist elaborated his reasoning:
“Look, ‘Symphony of Destruction’ It’s a pop song, say whatever you want. It’s a pop song, right? It’s like, I heard Linkin Parkand for me, it could be the BACKSTREET BOYS With some distorted guitars, you know? I mean … I don’t want to call them boy band, but it sounds like that, right? “

He adds:
“It’s done in a way that sounds heavy in this universe. And I’m talking about the things of the 1990s and 2000s, not current, and I use them only as an example.”
Marilyn Manson has already made a similar comparison
Interestingly, the former bassist of the Megadeth was not the only one to make this comparison between Linkin Park and BACKSTREET BOYS. In 2017, Marilyn Manson spoke exactly the same thing in statement to The sun (via Igor Miranda website):
“I grew up listening Soundgardenbut I always thought the Linkin Park sounded like BACKSTREET BOYS mixed with Korn. It wasn’t for me. “
