Dialogue was confirmed by both American president and Planalto Palace; idea is that a new meeting will take place among politicians
Donald Trumppresident of the United States, said on the social network Truth that he talked to Luiz Inácio Lula da SilvaPresident of Brazil. In the publication, held on Monday, 6, the American politician defined the call as “very good”.
According to Trump, a meeting between the two will take place “in the not too distant future, both in Brazil and in the United States.” The issue has turned between economics and commerce between countries – the US has applied commercial tariffs worldwide.
In the post, the American president states:
“This morning, I made a very good phone call with President Lula from Brazil. We discussed many things, but the conversation focused mainly on the economy and trade between the two countries. We will have new discussions and will gather in the not too distant future, both in Brazil and the United States. I liked the telephone call – our countries will go very well together!”
Trump and Lula talked for about 30 minutes. The Brazilian head of state requested the end of the 50% surcharge imposed by the US government on Brazilian products. The initiative to talk was from the American politician, who now has Lula’s direct number for dialogue without intermediaries.
There are no other scheduled meetings between them. However, the Brazilian president proposed a meeting at the Asean summit in Malaysia later this month, and also made available to travel to the US.
In a note, the Planalto Palace said:
“President Trump designated Secretary of State Marco Rubio to continue negotiations with the vice president Geraldo Alckminthe chancellor Mauro Vieira and the Minister of Finance Fernando Haddad. ”
During conversation with journalists, the vice president Geraldo Alckmin celebrated the conversation between Trump and Lula. He, who is also Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, said:
“President Lula highlighted Brazil’s willingness for dialogue and negotiation. […] We are very optimistic that we will advance to winning, in this relationship with reciprocal investments and equation of the tariff issue. ”
