Spoilers ahead for the second week of America has talent Season 17 Qualifiers.
America has talent He may have brought out some of Season 17’s biggest talent in last week’s first qualifying round, like Golden Bell winner Avery Dixon and country artist Drake Milligan, but the competition was even more difficult in week two. . Not one but two Golden Buzzer winning pieces of music took to the stage among comedians, acrobats, singers and more for a total of eleven. Only two of the eleven will advance to the final to face Dixon and Milligan, and country singer group Chapel Hart sent a message after closing the show on August 16 with another original song.
The country trio, made up of sisters Danica and Devynn Hart and cousin Trea Swindle, wowed the judges during their audition, so much so that they (and host Terry Crews) teamed up to give them the sixth golden mermaid of the season. , which had only been done once before, when AG made history for the young Victory Brinker. His qualifying song set the audience on their feet and, speaking to Gossipify and other outlets after the episode concluded, Swindle shared the message for voters they heard after leaving the stage:
I would say to those of you: listen, children. I want you to take your phones, laptops, iPads, go to your neighbors, knock on their door and say, “Wake up, it’s time to vote for Chapel Hart!” Enter. This is what you do. Because we need a little more. A wise man once said, “Give the people what they want,” and if they want more Chapel Hart, they should vote!
The Hart sisters totally agreed with the cousin and the trio (along with viewers) will have to wait until the results air Aug.17 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC to find out if there were enough voters to advance up. in the end. . They seem like a pretty safe thing at the moment, and Golden Buzzer winners are used to reaching the finals and even winning all season, but not much is guaranteed when it comes to AG.
Chapel Hart made a bold move to qualify by opting for a second original song. Although her first song in AG – called “You Can Have Him Jolene” in response to Dolly Parton’s iconic “Jolene” – was successful enough to push them to number 1 on the national iTunes chart, cover (as had already been done by another ringtone winner Madison Taylor Baez at night with her cover of Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love”) tends to be a safer route when it comes to live entertainment.
Instead, the three women performed “The Girls Are Back in Town” and the response from the audience proved that it wasn’t a bad choice. Speaking to the press, Devynn Hart touched on the idea that making a second original was a risky move:
I really think every time you make your original music, it’s the first round [or] the last lap is always a risk. Because when people aren’t used to hearing something conventional or on the radio, I feel they accept it a lot less. But the response we got to our original music was insane. We are those people who like to give our fans what they want. And so they said: “We want to see you do more original”. So we’re like, ‘You get it!’
While “You Can Have Him Jolene” was definitely unique and original, there was also a certain familiarity with anyone listening to Dolly Parton’s classic. “The Girls Are Back in Town” is bigger and bolder without losing the charm and energy that motivated the judges to give her the extra gold ring, and the song looks set to take Chapel Hart to the top spot on iTunes. . . Danica Hart commented on how this melody was different from the “Jolene” version, saying:
This week was tough because we also made a bolder song. I feel like America has fallen in love with us, like, ‘Oh, they’re engaged!’ and this week we’re like, ‘Burn that honky tonk to the ground!’ So this was different and we feel our fans got to see a different side of us tonight.

Only two of the evening’s eleven acts will qualify and there is no guarantee that those who qualified for the playoffs with a golden siren will advance to the finals. All judges especially praised the Duo Rings trapeze artists and Fusion Japan was also a hit with all four. Freckled Zelda and Mr. Pants were more controversial, but the Brown Brothers took their musical comedy skills to an even greater extent than their audition.
