Remember the case
This was stated during a homily by Father Danilo César on June 27 in Areial. During his speech, the priest reflected on those who have addressed their requests to God, but, for some reason, have not received a response. In this context he used Preta, who died from complications due to cancer, as an example.
“I ask for health, but I don’t get health, it is because God knows what he does, he knows what is best for you, that death is best for you. What is the name of Preta Gil’s father? Gilberto Gil said a prayer to the orixás, where are these orixás who did not resurrect Preta Gil? Have they already buried them?”, he said.
The speech was seen as disrespectful to Preta’s death and prejudicial to her beliefs, as she was a fan of Catholicism and Candomblé.
At the time, the priest had been ordered out of court to publicly and formally recant through the channels of the institution, where the mass had been broadcast. Gil stressed that, up to that point, there had been no public demonstration or communication with the intention of having the crimes retracted. An investigation and ecclesiastical accountability of the priest was also requested.
