After 16 years away from the studio, the British band not only has new material ready but is also preparing a live documentary of their historic performance in London
The Cure gave fans something to cheer about: the band has quietly updated their official biography with a significant revelation — 13 new songs have now been recorded for an upcoming album. There will also be a concert film of the show held at the Troxy, in London.
According to the updated biography, “in March 2025, the band returned to the studios Rockfield to record 13 new songs as a continuation of the album Songs of a Lost World. Furthermore, Robert Smith is already working on the re-editing and remastering of the film The Show of a Lost World.
This movement comes shortly after the band’s last album, Songs of a Lost World (2024), the first with new material since 4:13 Dream (2008). It is worth remembering that this album was accompanied by a live album: Songs of a Live World: Troxy London MMXXIVrecorded precisely at the launch show at Troxy.
Remix editing also gained space in 2025: Mixes of a Lost Worldreleased in June, brings together reinterpretations of the 2024 album made by names like Four Tet and Paul Oakenfoldbetween others. The band donated the recording rights for this album to the NGO War Child UK.
Expectations for 2026
If these 13 tracks are part of a full album, it would mark a consistent return to the studio for the band, something talked about since the release of Songs of a Lost World. During the promotion of this album, Smith mentioned that another “virtually finished” album existed as a future plan. He also commented that he did not intend to tour again without having this material finished.
Expectations grow because The Cure has already announced several dates for the summer of 2026, including festivals such as Primavera Sound and other shows in the UK and Ireland. This schedule suggests that the new album could serve as the basis for a new stage of touring, consolidating a renewed phase for the band.
In the conceptual aspect, it is speculated whether the sound will follow the more gothic, spatial and introspective line of Songs of a Lost World or whether there will be experiments, as has already occurred throughout the group’s career.
As for Troxy’s concert film, this type of record can deliver more than images: it can be a narrative about this new phase of the band. With montages, behind-the-scenes material and careful visual treatment, the film can function as a bridge between the band’s mythical past and the vibrant present.
