America has talent it does well on live broadcasts of Season 17, although the qualifiers present a twist this year. Instead of slowing down the semifinalist pools, each of the 55 artists who advanced the auditions has only one chance to make it to the Grand Finals for a chance to win a million dollars and a show in Las Vegas. Acts need to be bigger, bolder, and dazzling for viewers, but are fans and voters missing out on the show by not seeing it live? Judges Howie Mandel and Heidi Klum shared their thoughts with Gossipify and they disagree 100%.
The two judges spoke with Gossipify and other outlets after the second night of live qualifiers, and the eleven acts will soon be reduced to two. Asked if they thought viewers would lose viewing on TV from home instead of live in person, Howie Mandel specifically mentioned the Duo Rings stunt act, which closed their latest performance with a fall right in front of the judges. . He shared his thoughts about him saying:
Yup! I told Simone [Cowell] immediately after seeing [Duo Rings]. We have an excellent production team. I think we have the best production team on television and our director Russell Norman is fantastic. But I told Simon that part of this is that the act can make a million dollars and get a headlining seat in Vegas, and when you watch Duo Rings, and they’re three floors up, and they’re right above you. in the room and they fall within a foot of you, there is no way, no matter what kind of TV you have at home, no matter how big the screen, no matter the quality of your speakers, there is no way to get the feel of what’s in the live room. That is why some of these great, spectacular, huge and reckless acts lose something once they are eliminated and do not live.
The Duo Rings were quite spectacular in their live performance, to the point that it would have been shocking for them to cut before the end if the evening hadn’t been filled with fan favorites and Golden Buzzer winners. Madison Taylor Baez (who i in the center of the golden buzzer winners pack more likely to win) was cut and she this was definitely a fan favorite .
The two that go on are the country music group Chapel Hart. after opting for a sharper original song and the magician Yu Hojin. According to Howie Mandel, music and magical acts are definitely easier to experience on the small screen than an acrobatic act. Singers and magicians tend to be appreciated AG voters, so the fate of Duo Rings may have been marked by the fact that viewers weren’t able to fully experience the drops in person.
That said, Heidi Klum has a different perspective on whether fans miss watching from home rather than right in front of the action. She said:
Of course it’s exciting to be there, but always, not always, but often, when I get home on time, I see him on TV. And it’s amazing, because you get so many different angles from home. It’s kind of like when you watch a football match or any sports match, in a way it’s almost better at home than in the room, because I don’t know how many cameras they have in this piece! you know you get [the performers], you get the audience, you get close, you get it from many different angles. So, I think it’s always nice to see him from home, and I’m always like, ‘How come there aren’t so much, how I feel, or more?’ [laughs] I’m kidding.
While the experience of seeing AG living in person is “thrilling”, according to Heidi Klum, impossible to see every detail up close or enjoy an instant replay like home viewers do. Although voters can only use the reactions of the judges and the audience to gauge how it really went, they do have some perks on their television screens. Klum continued comparisons of her:
There is definitely a different energy, yes, but it’s the same when you go to a live concert. It’s the same. You feel like everyone in the room is sweating and screaming, which is good, and mostly because we haven’t done this in a long time. You know, it’s fun to be in the room with so many people.
