America has talent uses qualifiers to narrow down the 55 acts that passed auditions to the top ten who will perform in the finale, and week three had a wide variety of acts, including the return of The winner of the Golden Bell Sara James Yes women’s group XOMG POP! Celia Muñoz was once again the very original ventriloquist who wowed the crowd without the need for a doll, unlike the old AG the winners Terry Fator and Darci Lynne. Her final performance also managed to honor the late Olivia Newton-John with a Great homage, and Muñoz was honest about it.
The Spanish opera singer, turned ventriloquist, performed a scene of herself sitting in a drive-in cinema watching Great, while eating traditional sandwiches at the cinema … and singing Olivia Newton-John’s iconic “Hopeless Devoted To You”. Not only did she play all the necessary voices without moving her lips, but she played the role of a fan who actually watches the movie and becomes deeply involved in Danny and Sandy’s romance. The judges were delighted with her originality, with Simon Cowell even claiming it was the best act of the evening when there weren’t many acts left.
Celia Muñoz spoke to Gossipify and other outlets after hitting the heat as a non-puppet ventriloquist. When I asked her about her decision to hug Great on the classic Olivia Newton-John song, she shared:
I chose the song before Olivia Newton-John died. For example, I watch Grease because I’m a super fan of the movie and I love Olivia Newton-John, and then she died. Then I said, “Now I really have to do this act because now it has become a tribute to this wonderful artist that we all love, and it has brought so much joy.” So that day I went crazy and tried.
Olivia Newton-John died on August 8 at the age of 73. after a long battle with cancer and his famous friends (including Great protagonist John Travolta) He wasted no time in paying tribute to the singer / actress . According to Celia Muñoz, she was already thinking about being hugged Great for his qualifying performance before Newton-John’s death. And I would say that it was worth repeating the “crazy”!
The ventriloquist did it AG debuted in May, so he had plenty of time to start planning his next act, and it makes sense that a performance with as many variables as his own takes a fair amount of time to prepare. How many people could talk over a milkshake, eat ice cream and snack on popcorn, let alone sing a great rendition of “Hopeless Devoted To You” live on national television?
Celia Muñoz then explained her creative process to the press on the virtual red carpet, saying:
The idea was like a cinema because when you watch a movie, it is there [are] voices and songs, and I want to sing because I’m a singer. So obviously when I thought of a movie, I thought it had to be Grease. It has to be Grease because people love Grease. I love Grease and I love Olivia Newton-John. So I chose the song before she died, and then after her death, of course, it became an even deeper feeling for the act because now it’s a tribute.
Fortunately, the performance wasn’t sombre or serious, although she dug deeper and realized her rehearsals were for a tribute, as well as an opportunity to move on to the AG Finals Not a sad way to remember Olivia Newton-John, but a lot of fun, and her chances of progressing to the final seemed pretty high as soon as the judges made their comment and the audience (finally) stopped talking. If you missed it, take a look:
Like the other ten artists of the third qualifying week, his America has talent Fate was in the hands of the voters at home and fans didn’t have much time to vote. The episode concluded at 10 p.m. ET Tuesday night on NBC, with voting closing at 7 a.m. ET on Wednesday morning and the results to be announced in prime time Wednesday night. Howie Mandel earlier he noted that domestic viewers sometimes get lost not being part of the live audience; Will this affect Munoz’s chances?
Make sure you stay connected America has talent Wednesday August 24 at 8 p.m. ET to see which of the eleven finalists will go ahead and if Celia Muñoz is one of them. She and magician Nicolas Ribs were among the jury favorites that night, but singer Sara James, with whom I may have made a big mistake where I listed her as the winner of the gold buzzer – blew the roof off with his portrayal of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” to close the night.
